Stephen wanted Christmas to be done and over with; it wasn't really his thing because as far as he was concerned, it was a holiday to be spent with your family. And it had been a long, long time since he'd had any family to call his own - almost forty years and the clock was still running. Forty years, it had been. Thanksgiving, Christmas, he gladly ignored them all and he wasn't about to succumb any time too soon, either. He'd ignored Nate's own rather rude invitation to Thanksgiving in Nebraska in favor of solitude - and not a single hair on his body thought about Christmas, or the possibility to spend it with Nate's family. It had been just one single night, forty long years ago, that had resulted into Nate. Awkward. Very awkward. In his opinion, not enough to warrant to being seen part of the family.
It was all starting to build up - his mistakes from the past, every single thing he'd done, which in the end amounted up to one huge motherfucking horn of plentifulness and it looked as if it wasn't going to end just yet. But what would it all lead to? Well, it all ended with death, didn't it? But when was that sweet, merciful day finally going to come his way? He stared at the toy train that was riding around in circles in yet another cheerful and distasteful shop display and just barely resisted the urge to scowl.
The reflection pair of semi-familiar blue eyes suddenly appeared next to his own, staring intently at the toy train. An immaculately made up face, crowned by perfectly coiffed blond locks. Everything about the woman just screamed first upper class, and unwillingly, Stephen took a step back. An angel who he hadn't seen in years now, had appeared next to him. And it was always so daunting still. An angel. It was hard to think of her in any other manner.
"Wendy." He finally spoke up, his hand fidgeting with his plastic bag, which contained his meager and cheap shopping results; a TV dinner.
"Stephen." And there was that brilliant smile again - the one that he'd once admired so much, the one that had lifted his heart. "I heard you were back in town. Saw you blogging, too."
